Hi Ivy Families, Change is always challenging, especially when it is unexpected and immediate. With the news of all Illinois schools remaining closed for the remainder of the year, it has been difficult to comprehend as we all held out hope to return, even for a couple of weeks. So what now? We come together even tighter, realize that school is NOT over and it is up to us to decide how we finish the year. I can guarantee that our Ivy teachers are working day and night to create engaging and socially responsible remote learning plans during this emergency situation. They are a dedicated group of people who love your kids and will do their best to support their students. As parents in this uncertain situation, please continue to find the balance for your family and focus on your children as they are experiencing the same emotions we are, but may not have all the necessary tools to recognize, understand, and regulate their emotions. I hope you can find our Monday SEL lessons a great starting point for your family. This week also brought our new structure to Remote Learning. I hope you found the streamlined and focused lessons more conducive to setting up a daily schedule for your children. Also, as teachers have more consistent live experiences for our students via Zoom or Google Hangouts, please be mindful that these are designed for your students to remain connected to their classmates and teacher in a comfortable and safe manner, similar to their classrooms. As I shared previously, let’s continue to show grace and kindness during this time to everyone in our lives. However challenging and testing it is, this abrupt change has allowed us the opportunity for a chance to be even better than we were! Let’s go for it! Be Courageous, Be Kind, Be You Scott School AvailabilityA school administrator will be present at Ivy Hill this Wednesday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Highland Ave) Who: Any family with a student 18 years or younger is eligible to come pick-up meals Hi Ivy Families! We miss you! There is no other way to say it. As each week goes by, the more real this unique situation becomes our new normal. With every sudden and dramatic change, we all go through a range of emotions. We may experience sadness, frustration, and uncertainty. These emotions are all normal and expected as we now begin to focus on how we can manage all the various emotions we experience on a daily basis. I encourage us all to realize that our typical school experience can never be replicated under these emergency conditions. We have been focusing on what makes our school and district so strong, the two things that we find we do best: connection and relationships. This has made us remember that Ivy Hill is not a physical place but rather a community of families committed to doing the best for our children. Our staff has been working tirelessly to make those personal connections with their classes through Zoom Meetings, Google Hangouts, Twitter pics, SeeSaw post and so much more! I have been so impressed by everyone, especially YOU, our Ivy parents. This is not easy and we all struggle trying to juggle our own professional and personal responsibilities while supporting our children. YOU have been doing an amazing job! Heading into Remote Learning 3.0, I encourage everyone to have grace and show kindness to yourself, your children, your family, and our teachers. Please continue to focus on connections with each other, which I feel has been the silver lining during this time. We are so fortunate to have this time with our families, even though at times it may be too much to handle, enjoy those moments of laughter, compassion, curiosity, joy, comfort, love and continue to foster them. Those are the feelings and emotions we want our kids to come back to school whenever we return. Be Courageous, Be Kind, Be Safe Scott Remote Learning 3.0Remote Learning Plans will look fairly similar to what we have already been using. Beginning on Tuesday, April 14th, weekly Remote Learning Landing Pages will be posted on each school’s website. The Landing Pages will be posted on school websites by Monday morning during subsequent weeks. The Landing Pages will contain all of the daily Remote Learning Day Plans for the week. While we still will focus on maintaining that connectivity, we will be moving towards introducing some new academic content to our students while also reinforcing essential skills. You’ll also notice we are focusing on fewer subjects and shorter amount of time a day to help students and families have a more streamlined learning plan. Below find a summary of approximate times. Kindergarten
Grades 1-2
Grades 3-5
Visit our Landing Page if you want to look at more specific plans Additional Practice?I realize some families might want additional work, please remember that quality is more effective than quantity. We want kids to be excited to complete the various tasks/experiences and not feel overwhelmed and lose interest causing potential frustrations at home. If you feel your child is wanting more, I always encourage students to pick up a book, tap into their own imagination and enter the world of wonderment! We have "Empower" Challenges if that is of interest or just let your child explore, tinker, and wonder!! Did you know that in 1665 Issac Newton had to work from home when the University of Cambridge temporarily closed due to the Bubonic Plague? Guess what...he used that time to stumble upon his theories of calculus, optics, and gravity!! Give you kids space and time to wonder and who knows what they will discover :) School Access and AvailabilityA school administrator will be present at Ivy Hill on Wednesdays (effective 4/15) from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
