We also had the pleasure to Skype with author Pat Zietlow Miller , who wrote Sophie's Squash and Sophie's Squash Go to School. We actually planted squash last year because of this book and it was a wonderful connection for our students to have Ms. Miller read her second book to us! A couple reminders: Next week we have Picture Day on Tuesday, September 27th. Due to Picture Day, K-2 Running Club will not occur. If you have signed your child up for Language Stars, classes begin next week. Be sure to check your schedule to see the correct day and time. Hi Ivy Hill Families! Thanks again to all the families who attended our annual Curriculum Night! It was great sharing our goal to have each student PIECE it all together! Our amazing PTA will be hosting their 1st meeting of the year. Please plan on attending on Tuesday, at 7:00pm to hear about the plans for the year! For more information, visit their website! https://ivyhillpta.org/ As I shared during Curriculum Night, one of our goals is to develop considerate, inclusive, and encouraging students by focusing on Social Emotional Learning. We are beginning the year by teaching the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit in grades 1st-5th. Over the next 4 weeks, Ms. Ague, our School Social Worker, will be working with each grade level to do a series of lessons on bullying. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help recognize and handle bullying. Students will learn how to: Recognize when bullying is happening, Report bullying to a caring adult, Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others, Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution. Additionally, 4th and 5th grade students will be learning about Cyberbullying. A great part of these units are the home-school connections. Your student will be bringing home simple, fun activities called Home Links that will help you understand what your child is learning about bullying at school. The Home Links will also give your child another opportunity to practice skills for handling bullying. Each year, the district administers several state and local assessments to our students. The information obtained from these assessments aids our teachers’ understanding of your child’s strengths and needs in order to design instruction accordingly. Attached you will find the letter shared by our Assessment Coordinator of all the assessments that will occur throughout the year. Finally, LMC is looking for volunteers !! We have more options & shorter commitments. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested. Thanks again for a wonderful week and enjoy the weekend! Scott Go Eagles! Go Bears!!
