Thanks to all the Room Parents and our amazing PTA for helping us celebrate Valentines Day. The students were so excited and the coffee and donuts made the Ivy Hill Staff’s day! Remember there is NO School on Monday. Enjoy the long weekend and see everyone on Tuesday! Scott 2017-2018 Calendar ChangesWhen the decision is made to close schools, it is necessary for the students to make-up the missed instructional time. Since we had a snow day on February 9, 2018, we will now be adjusting our school calendar. The final day of school for students will be on Friday, June 8, 2018. My hope is that we won’t have any additional days of inclement weather this school year! Please feel free to call me at 847-758-4910 or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you for your time today. LMC VolunteersThe LMC is in need of parent volunteers to help with small projects and shelving of books. We would appreciate any amount of time you can spare. Hi Ivy Families! Hope you all were able to enjoy the Snow Day and the Winter Wonderland!! We had such a fun week celebrating Global School Play Day and 100th Day of School. Reflecting on the last 100 days, it has been amazing to see how the students have grown tremendously over the last 100 days. Students have been courageous in trying new things and learning it is ok to fail in the process of growing. Students have shown their uniqueness and kindness in so many ways. Students have been able to be creative not only in Art, but Math, Reading, Science and all other academic areas. Students have also been able to strengthen their friendship and partnerships by finding opportunities to collaborate on a daily basis. I can't wait to see what's next for all our Ivy Eagles!! Scott Valentines DayValentines parties are scheduled to happen on Wednesday, February 14. Room reps should double check with their classroom teachers to verify the start time as they may vary by grade level. If your child is passing out Valentines cards to other students, the cards cannot have any candy or food attached to them. Trinkets such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc., are great alternatives as long as they are not edible. Items such as goodie bags filled with treats or candy are also not permitted. Thanks for your cooperation! Arrival and DismissalThe traffic expectations listed on our website help to keep our children safe and expedite the process of getting our children to and from school. Please click HERE to find more information. To help expedite drop-off in the morning, please be sure to pull all the way to the end of the drop-off zone. Also, for your child’s safety, please make sure they only exit the car curbside and cross at the cross-walks. Please be attentive and follow the guidance of our staff members! You will see them directing traffic, helping children exit cars, and ensuring the safety of our students. Per Illinois State Law, CELL PHONE USE IS PROHIBITED in school zones. Recently there have been reports of parents double parking on N/B Burke near the entrance to the pick-up and drop-off circle in front of the school. This creates a situation on Burke where no vehicles can proceed northbound and obscures other driver’s vision. AHPD will be enforcing traffic laws there in the near future.

Hi Ivy Families! I would first like to thank the PTA and all the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to make our Fun Fair such a huge success! Students will remember these experiences forever!! We also started our Friday with a visit from author/illustrator Peter Reynolds. He inspired us all through his stories and words. Be sure to ask your kids about it! Have a great Super Bowl Weekend! Scott Global School Play DayOn Wednesday, February 7th, our school will be participating in the Global School Play Day (GSPD). On this day, countries and schools from all over the world will come together to raise awareness about the necessity of unstructured play for our children. GSPD founders created this global event, which started in 2015, with the hope of “restoring unstructured play to a generation of kids.” Research has shown that unstructured play has a positive influence on:
More specific information regarding the day will come from your classroom teachers. It should be a fun day! Nurse Note - Flu ReminderThe best way to prevent the spread of flu is to keep children home from school if they exhibit symptoms that could suggest flu: ● A temperature over 99.5 degrees. Temperature should remain normal for a period of 24 hours before the child returns to school. ● Sore, red throat, earache or swollen glands. ● Many communicable illnesses begin with coughing and runny nose and are most contagious in the first days. ● Symptoms that involve the whole body such as muscle pain or body aches. ● Please keep students not feeling well at home. At times, parents send students to school in the hope that they will feel better. This exposes others to illness and rarely do they feel better.
