Hi Ivy Families! I hope you are enjoying the long weekend! I want to highlight a couple amazing service projects that have been developed by our own Ivy Eagles over the past weeks. As our students looked forward to Valentine’s Day, they were also thinking about other kids who would miss out on the fun of receiving valentines. Our student council felt the need to help some other children and decided to ask our entire school to create valentines for kids who are at the Almost Home Kids facility in Naperville. This facility provides transitional care in a home-like setting to children with complicated health needs, training for their families and respite care. The staff was thrilled to receive so many valentines from our Ivy Hill students and shared it made all the children smile and feel extra special! Another service project I would like to highlight is H.S.P.M.D. (Help Save People with Medical Disabilities). This began last year with a couple students having an idea of helping children by raising money for Comers Children Hospital. That one idea has expanded this year into a group of about 10 girls in Ms. Mekky’s 5th grade class. The students have consistently demonstrated dedication, hard work, responsibility and persistence to make their dream a reality. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! You are truly showing our students how a small idea can become reality with hard work and support from others! For more information about H.S.P.M.D. please see the attached flyer. Finally, I just wanted to remind everyone that we don’t have school on Monday, February 15th. Have a great weekend and see you all on Tuesday! Scott
Hi Ivy Hill Families! I hope everyone had a great time at the Fun Fair! A definite highlight was watching our parents show off their dances move on stage! AWESOME work!! I want to thank all the parent and teacher volunteers who helped make this event such a success. Additionally, I want to thank the PTA for organizing such a memorable evening for all our families to enjoy. I know a lot of time and energy went into making this fantastic! A couple reminders for next week: Kindergarten registration for 2016-17 School Year will be on Tuesday, February 9th from 3:45-5:45. Be sure to bring your child’s birth certificate, proof of residency and the additional paperwork you received in your packet. If you have any questions, feel free to call the school office (847) 398-4275. Friday we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. If your child is passing out Valentines cards to other students, the cards cannot have any candy or food attached to them. Trinkets such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc., are great alternatives as long as they are not edible. Items such as goodie bags filled with treats or candies are also not permitted. Are you ready for another fun evening? Our PTA has organized our annual Free Skate Night on Thursday, February 11th from 6:30 – 9:00 at Orbit Roller Rink. This event is only for our Ivy Hill students and their immediate family. This is always a fun night! A couple quick notes; skate rental is available for $3.00 and this is not a drop-off event so parents need to stay with their children. I look forward to seeing you all out there! Finally, check out the attached flyer regarding Summer U! Have a great weekend! Scott
