Thanks to everyone who attended our Open House last week! I hope you all were able to see the amazing things happening in your child’s classroom since the start of school. If you haven’t started following your child’s teacher on Twitter, consider doing so as they are tweeting “in the moment” activities throughout the day! This will allow you to have more concrete discussions when your children come home. Our goal this year has been to change the conversation from “How was your day?” to “I saw your class doing…tell me about it.” A couple quick reminders for this week: 4th grade Music Performance – Wednesday, Oct. 28th – Doors open 9:30 am and performance begins at 9:45 am Box Top Deadline and online Spirit Wear orders are due Oct. 30th. For more information on these PTA Happenings along with the other amazing things sponsored by our PTA, check out their website by using the following link. http://ivyhillpta.org/ On Wednesday students will be receiving a teal “Be a D25 PAL” wristband. The purpose of the wristband is to remind students how they can all help Protect A Life (PAL) by following the tips below, which will be shared in their classrooms this week.
Additionally, since Halloween is only a week away, we encourage all our Ivy Hill families to learn more about the Teal Pumpkin Project. This project focuses on providing non-food treat options for trick-or-treaters, as everyone might not be able to eat the candy. It’s a great way to allow everyone an opportunity to have a fun and safe have Halloween! Click on the active link above to learn how to participate! As we prepare for our Halloween parties on Friday, a couple quick reminders. You should have already received the permission slip allowing your child to leave school for lunch and get dressed at home on Friday. Please turn those in as soon as possible. If you have not received the permission slip, please reach out to your child’s teacher and they can send another one home. We have two outside parade routes planned that will be shared on Thursday. We have news for those of you who participated in the Century Resources fundraiser. Our orders will be delivered to Ivy Hill on Tuesday, October 20th. Orders are organized into easy-to-lift, shrink-wrapped boxes with handles. We will distribute orders to students before dismissal on Tuesday to carry home. If you have a large order, or prefer to pick up your boxes yourself, a pick-up will be available in the Ivy Hill Commons from 3:20-4:00 on Tuesday the 20th. If you plan to pick the order up yourself: please e-mail Emily Morrison [email protected], so we can be sure NOT to send your order home with your child. Be sure to check your box for perishable items when you get home! Thank you so much for making our fall fundraiser such a success! Picture Day is Wednesday! A couple pieces of information I’d like to share for the upcoming week. Tuesday we will be video taping a “Kick-Off to the new Ivy Hill”. Six lucky students, one from each grade level, will be randomly selected to participate in the celebratory “dig” to commemorate the official groundbreaking. The entire school will see the video at the end of the day. We will then post it to our website for everyone to see on Wednesday. Movie Night for grades 3-5 is this Friday. If your child is planning on attending, please fill out the permission slip sent home on Thursday. I also sent it directly through email to our 3rd – 5th grade families Friday. Should be a great time! This is the first of a few updates and reminders related to Halloween. I’d like to start by sharing the schedule for the day. Scott Good Evening Ivy Hill Families! A couple quick reminders for the week ahead. As the weather begins to turn a little bit cooler, please make sure your children are dressing appropriately with jackets and pants as we are still heading outside for recess. Since we have changed play areas, I encourage parents not come up to the fences or walk into the fields to talk with their children. If you need to speak to your child, please head to the office and we will then bring your child inside. No school for students on Friday (Oct. 9th) and Monday (Oct. 12th) Walking School Bus (Wednesday Oct. 7th) Please see the attached documents for more information This past Thursday, the Board of Education approved the bids for all aspects of the projects. We are excited to have construction begin sometime next week! We all are looking forward to the adventure!
